CROSSING THE BRIDGE
At 6.30
This year, 2008/2009, The Edgbaston Constituency Residents Equality Network (ECREN), has worked in partnership with a customer involvement officer and Pro-Actors Ltd to put on an evening performance of an original play, 'Crossing the Bridge', on Saturday 11th October 2008 at the Cerebral Palsy Midlands Centre, 17 Victoria Road, Harborne, Birmngham B17.
Pro-Actors is an organisation founded by actor/director Toni Griffiths and writer/performer John Edgar. It is a resource providing creative services to industry, education, local government, service sectors and the wider community.
Pro-Actors is about empowerment, motivation, teamwork, problem solving and communication. They create workshops and programmes tailored specifically to the organisation's needs.
Crossing the Bridge involves younger and older people who are working together, despite their differences, to help develop mutual understanding and respect.
Crossing the Bridge tells the story of The Bridge, which, for the younger people, is their youth club. To the older community, it's an invaluable meeting place. Everybody needs the Bridge. Suddenly a property developer decides it would make a wonderful shopping centre. Only by working together as a team can the Bridge be saved.
The play is collectively devised and performed by a cast of all ages, including various range age of young people and our own older residents from the Harborne and Edgbaston ward, with a script by Pro-Actors Ltd who has done other projects with the Birmingham City Council linking younger and older people together.
Crossing the Bridge is an exciting and original play, complete with song, dance and even its very own villain. But most of all, it's about team work and how much we can achieve if we only work together.
The evening is a free and, to make the event even more special, there will be food after the performance as well as entertainment in the interval.
The Edgbaston Constituency Residents Equality Network are citizens of the Edgbaston Constituency who come together to work with Officers to help organise equality events for the Edgbaston Constituency. Projects are developed to bring awareness to our residents of the various issues that we may face due to age, race, disability or sexual orientation, and to explore solutions in making our communities better places to live.
Any further information, please contact Jennie Carter, Customer Involvement Officer, on 0121 303 5359.
