Bartley Green
Best known for its reservoir and its green, open spaces over looking the Clent Hills, over twenty five thousand people live in Bartley Green. The reservoir - which opened in 1930 - helps meet Birmingham's drinking water needs, is popular for watersports, and is nationally known for bird life.
With an annotation in the 1086 Domesday book as "Birch Tree Wood", elements of the Bartley Green Ward have been variously part of Northfield parish, Weoley, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, and Frankley, but the Ward arrived as currently constituted in 1995.
Harborne
Leafy and relaxed, Harborne has a famously vibrant high street and retains much of its Victorian village character, despite being home to over 20,000 people. Harborne makes good use of its open spaces with a golf course, parks and allotments.
Harborne was given a mention in the Domesday book of 1086, but it was during the Victorian era, with the introduction of the Harborne railway that the village boomed. Despite world famous manufacturing and metal work - such as Chad Valley Toys - local retailers were always the cornerstone of Harborne's prosperity, and this is reflected in the High Street today.
Edgbaston
The Edgbaston Ward is home to the Cricket Ground, the Botanical Gardens, the Barber Institute and many historic locations, international institutions and thriving businesses. Edgbaston borders Birmingham city centre, and is the gateway to both the rejuvenated Broad Street and the Canalside areas.
Edgbaston gets a mention - as Celboldestone - in the 1086 Domesday book. In the 19th century the Calthorpe family, as Lords of the Manor, kept industrial development to a minimum, and this has helped the area retain a distinctive leafy look with many listed buildings, depsite a population of over twenty thousand people.
Quinton
The present boundaries of the Quinton Ward take in old Quinton as well as some of the old ward of Harborne. As a result, Quinton today retains a leafy, open character with well established green spaces such as the Woodgate Valley Country Park, Quinton Meadows and the Spinney.
Over 20,000 people live here, and access to the M5 and the Quinton Expressway, built in the 1960s, make Quinton a choice for urban workers and commuters.
