About The Edgbaston Constituency
Edgbaston Constituency is located in the south west of the Birmingham. From the city centre it stretches south to Selly Oak and Northfield and east to Sparkbrook. It abuts the boundary of Sandwell and Dudley Metropolitan Boroughs to the west and north, and also Ladywood to the north. It comprises the Bartley Green, Edgbaston, Harborne, and Quinton wards. The population is 89,910 (2001 census). Edgbaston is the largest urban conservation area in the country. The Constituency benefits from an attractive green environment to which the presence of institutions, such as the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, private schools in large grounds, and three golf courses, make a substantial contribution. Woodgate Valley Country Park provides a substantial area of public open space at the southern boundary. Bartley Green reservoir also attracts various water-based activities.
About Edgbaston Strategic Partnership
Everyone living and working in the Edgbaston Constituency is entitled to a high quality of life and effective services that meet their needs. That is why the Edgbaston Strategic Partnership has been set up to co-ordinate the actions of the wide variety of organisations working in the area, to improve the overall quality of life for present and future generations. One element of this is the production and implementation of a Constituency Community Plan that complements the City's Community Strategy, which is a statutory requirement under the Local Government Act 2000. This Plan has been prepared together with other organisations and communities. Its aim is to improve people's social and economic wellbeing.
About Our Edgbaston
Our Edgbaston is a venture driven by the aims of the Edgbaston Strategic Partnership, to help local Community, Volunteer and Faith based organisations reach out to each other and local residents. Each group has access to its own information "live" on the database, through an individual password and a web-based interface. What this means in practice is that interested individuals within each organisation get the opportunity to outreach as much as they are able, promoting group events and posting news items, with the support and training provided by the Our Edgbaston team.
